“Where do I find Free Blogger Templates?”

Most the Blogger user have this question in there mind, That from “Where do I find Free Blogger Templates?” And Blogger does not (currently) offer any three-column layouts. I really prefer this format as it helps us bloggers with lots of “extra” content able to compress it instead of leaving a never-ending column of elements.

I came across a number of web pages and blogs that have free three-column templates that are compatible with the new Blogger system.

Gecko&Fly - This site has a number of beautifully crafted Classic and Beta Blogger Template Designs for you to select from. There are still more classics than betas but it is great place to begin.

Hoctro’s Place - This blog site has a number of wonderful elements going for it. Hoctro has a good number of clever “hacks”, code helps, and custom widgets to check out. He also has 8 “ready-to-use” three-column templates that require almost no effort to get up and going on your blog. This guy is good!

Blogspot Templates - Contains both text only and graphical version of Blog templates. There are also instructions on how to use Blogger templates.

Blog Skins - A huge repository of user contributed template designs and blog skins for blogger, Movable Type, Xanga and Wordpress Blogs. Users can rate and comment on template designs.

Blogcrowds - This is mainly a forum for blog templates and helps. There is other stuff here as well. But one of the real gems is the three-column templates for the new Blogger that Stavanger has spun together. You must register first (free) to access them, but Stavanger’s work is well worth looking into if you need a three-column Blogger template. That’s where I found the new Blogger three-column code for Andreas04 template.

BeautifulBeta: Adding a second sidebar to your Blog - part 2 - This is actually a “standalone” post to walk you through manually adding a second sidebar to an existing Blogger template. It is very clear and the comments section has a great deal of additional discussion on the subject.

Blog U: Fluid 3 Column Blogger Template - Here is another great post that discusses how to change a “fixed” 3-column layout to a “fluid” one that changes according to each viewer’s screen size settings. It gets into some of the mechanics on how to pull it off and does a great job showing how all the element items work together. A good supplemental read on the subject is George Mikos’s post documenting his Blogger template in great detail.

Hopefully with a bit of research and a good measure of patience you can make a smooth transition to the new Blogger system.

Adsense Code In Blogger Beta Template

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or Subscribe by Email. Thanks for visiting!

Here are some tips on putting Google Adsense code in Beta Blogger template.

  • Using Adsense-aware widget is the easiest way to implement Google Adsense code in Beta Blogger template. The setup is simple as the instructions are easy and straightforward to follow.

Once the Adsense-aware widget created completely, drag the Adsense-widget around, to everywhere that the Google Adsense is expected to be displayed.

Note, clicking on the Add A Page Element link in Beta Blogger template page, will bring up a list of various widgets that are supported by Beta Blogger. The Adsense-widget at sidebar has only a limited set of Google Adsense templates that are fit with the size of sidebar.

If it is expected to have Google Adsense display at the top of Beta Blogger post body, use the widget on footer instead. As usual, once the Adsense-widget is created, drag the Adsense-widget from footer to the top or bottom of the Beta Blogger post body!

While this attempt is easier, the Google Adsense is exactly display at the top of date and title of the Beta Blogger post body!

In addition, the Google Adsense will be shown in main page? Isn’t it nice to have Google Adsense display only in individual Beta Blogger post content page? See next handy tip…

AdSense theme for Wordpress.

AdSense theme for Wordpress.

AdSense is all about the ads! The dull grey colorscheme is designed so that eyes are automatically drawn towards the adverts (in this case Google’s AdSense, although it is pretty straightforward to change them for Yahoo! ads or others as they are industry standard sizes). 3 ad units and 1 link unit are shown on each page, which is Googles maximum allowable. In addition, AdSense for search has been used to replace Wordpress’ inbuilt search function.

The theme is intentionally basic with no images used. This makes it quick and easy to apply to any blog or site that is using Wordpress as a CMS.

Some basic SEO has been carried out… the “title” and “h1″ tags contain the most relevant information… on a post page, the post title is used, on a category the category title is used etc. This should give Search Engines a better understanding of your page, and hence an improved ranking for your page. Another often overlooked advantage of correct use of tags is that your result in the SERPs will be formed correctly, so instead of your websites name (eg. pilkster.com) being used in every result, the page title (eg. SEO Adsense Wordpress Theme) or category title w
ill be used. This is a much more useful and appealing result for the searcher.

Adsense is located in the following files; header.php (728×15 linkunit), footer.php (728×90 adunit), sidebar.php (336×280 adunit, 160×600 adunit). Adsense for search is located in searchform.php. You will need to edit those files and ad your AdSense publisher ID (pub-id).

The Adsense theme has a widget enabled right-hand sidebar. This theme has been created with Wordpress 2.1 “Ella” in mind.
